Matyas took his first musical steps on the guitar. During his musicological studies at the Technische Universität Berlin he got involved with Indian Raga Music and got hooked. He started learning traditional Sitar and Surbahar music under Sitar-Maestro Subroto Roy Chowdhury (Senia Gharana) and lived with his guru in his Kolkata house for more than five years – learning the intricacies of traditional Raga music. After the demise of his guru he sought further guidance under the renowned Sarod-Maestro Irfan Khan (Shajahanpur-Lucknow Gharana). Matyas has performed internationally on prestigious stages including: Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), Nehru Centre (London), Indian Embassy Berlin, Sitar Festival St. Petersburg (Russia), Pakistan Embassy Berlin, Glastonbury Festival (UK), Leverkusener Jazztage (Germany), Fusion Festival (Germany), International Jazz Festival Izmir (Turkey), ICCR Hall Kolkata, Rudolstadt Festival/TFF (Germany) etc.

His work with the renowned world-jazz-project Pulsar Trio (winners of 2014 Creole-global-music-award) has given him and his instruments a wide audience. He has produced three albums with classical Raga music and three highly acclaimed albums with Pulsar Trio. Apart from that he has worked in numerous musical projects as guest musician and has composed film music. Recently he co-founded Berlin-Raga-Tribe (BRT) – an initiative to promote authentic performances of traditional Raga music in and around Berlin.
